
Kölnbreinsperre in Malta - Austria`s highest concrete dam

At 1.933m above sea level Austria's highest condcrete dam - the Kölnbreinsperre with new Airwalk allowing an amazing view into the depth of 200m - awaits you. Frequent guided tours of the dam!
Due to its numerous waterfalls, the Malta valley is also known as the "valley of cascading waters" and is famous for its many spots of natural beauty, such as the "Malteiner Wasserspiele", a breathtaking waterfall located in an easily accessible gorge of the Maltabach stream.
With its rock-hewn tunnels and switchbacks, the Malta High Mountain Road is an impressive 14,4 km long example of high alpine road construction. It leads ot the Kölnbrein dam wall, which, at a height of 200m, a lenght of 626m, and a width of up to 41m, is the highest dam wall in Austria, storing the waters of the Kölnbrein reservoir, whose deep blue surface, set against the backdrop of the Hohe Tauern mountains and their glaciers, makes a truly memorable impression.
